Raiders mixed team finishes second at State Raider Meet

Crunching the numbers

The newly-formed committee to consider recommending additional property tax exemptions for senior citizens is scheduled to hold its second meeting Nov. 8 after giving Chief Tax Assessor Doug Kirkpatrick time to run numbers for suggested exemptions during last week’s inaugural meeting.

Metal detectors approved

The Elbert County Board of Education (BOE) approved the purchase and installation of eight weapon detection systems at Elbert County Comprehensive High School (ECCHS) and Elbert County Middle School (ECMS), during Monday night’s regular meeting. The cost for all eight systems totals $140,005.

Officers for the coming year include (L-R) Floyd County Tax Commissioner Kevin Payne as vice president, Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson as president elect, Hewell, Harris County Superior Court Clerk Stacy Haralson as past president and Gordon County Superior Court Clerk Grant Walraven as the secretary/treasurer.

Leading the state’s constitutional officers

Elbert County Probate/Magistrate Judge Stephanie Hewell was sworn in as the president of the Constitutional Officers Association of Georgia (COAG) for the 2023-2024 year during a ceremony in Savannah. Hewell and the other officers were given the oath of office by House Rep. Rob Leverett.
