Educational systems haven’t changed over past 40 years

Clarke County School Superintendent Dr. Demond Means said Saturday that we do a lot of things differently than we did 40 years ago, but one thing we haven’t changed is educating children.

EMH Authority Board votes to keep Graves as chairman

Elbert Memorial Hospital’s Authority Board voted unanimously Friday afternoon to keep Daniel Graves in the chairman’s seat. Graves who has served on the board for six years, said he was honored to remain as authority chairman.

Civic Center to get a facelift?

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners discussed a request from the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce to move forward in the process of making updates and redesigns to the chamber office at the Elberton Civic Center at their regularly scheduled meeting last week.

BOE begins policy review

The Elbert County School System’s review of its policies began with the approval of changes at Monday night’s regular board meeting. The school system is reviewing and adjusting its policies if necessary with the assistance of a legal firm hired specifically to review the policies.

School board mourns loss of secretary

Elbert County’s Board of Education paid a silent tribute to former central office secretary Dorathy Link, who died in an automobile accident in her home county (Hart) Nov. 12.

Elbert County High School names October Students of the Month

Elbert County Comprehensive High School recently named its Students of the Month for October 2019. McKenzie Dye was selected as the Career Pathways Student of the Month by the Family & Consumer Sciences Department. Her instructor, LeeAnne Cordell, said that “McKenzie is a great student.

Leslie Friedman, Executive Director and President of the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce, presented the Elbert County Board of Commissioners a plan for a redesign and update to the chamber office within the Elberton Civic Center at the BOC work session last week.

Track facility funding approved

The Elbert County Board of Education approved a “guaranteed maximum price” for the construction of a combined concession stand, restrooms and storage facility at the Elbert County Middle School where the new high school track is located.

Scott inducted into Georgia Military Hall of Fame

Lt. Col. James A. Scott III, or “Jim” as his friends and family know him, was inducted as a member of the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame Nov. 2 at a ceremony in Columbus for his “valor for heroic action in combat,” according to the press release announcing his induction.
