Mat Devils take runner-up spot at state duals

The Elbert County wrestling team is officially the 2026 Class A State Runners-Up, after advancing all the way to the state final of the Class A State Dual Championships hosted by Heard County Saturday. “I’m more than anything proud for the kids,” head coach Shane Anderson said.

Qualifying for Bowman city council to begin Monday

Qualifying dates have been announced for the March 17 election to fill a lone Bowman city council seat. According to a qualifying notice from the City of Bowman, qualifying is slated to be held during normal business hours from Jan. 26 through Jan. 30 at City Hall. The qualifying fee is $35.

Region play is here for the Elbert County girls’ basketball team, and with it comes some tough tests that have big-time ramifications for the Lady Devils’ season. The Lady Devils traveled to Commerce on Tuesday to take on the Lady Tigers and came up short 45-38.

The Elbert County wrestling team is moving on to the Class A State Championship Duals this weekend after finishing second place at the Area 8A Duals, which they hosted at The Inferno Jan. 10.

The Elbert County girls’ basketball team spent part of its holiday break in the Sunshine State, driving down to Tampa, Fla. for the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational Dec. 27 through Dec. 30.
