Elbert JROTC Raiders finish first in nation in rope bridge

The Elbert County JROTC Raiders will soon be sporting some new bling on their pinky fingers. The team finished first place in the rope bridge competition at the All Service Raider National Tournament Nov. 2 in Molena. Lt. Col J.D.

Elbert County board of education sees slight decrease in millage rate

The Elbert County board of education announced a decrease in its millage rate by about half a mill during its monthly meeting Monday, bringing it down from 14 to 13.48. Superintendent Robert Wheeler said the board is meeting Thursday to officially approve the new millage rate.

Measures pass, Harpold remains mayor of Bowman

Elbert County voters chose to pass two sales-tax measures while City of Bowman voters chose Scott Harpold for mayor and filled three vacant council seats. The creation of a Floating Local Option Sales and Use Tax passed with 1,734 votes, or 72.52 percent voting in favor and 657 voters, or 27.

Elbert County native Starke Jaudon recounts 20-year military career

One of Elbert County's own sons, Starke Jaudon, made a living out of service to his country. Born in Elbert County and raised on Forest Avenue in Elberton, Starke attended Elberton High School and later attended Gordon Military College for three years.
