Cartledge retires after nearly 10 years of ‘Treating people good’

Elbert County School District’s (ECSD) former director of transportation Mark Cartledge officially retired from his post Dec. 31 after serving as director for nearly 10 years.
The group consists of Kolynns Bellew, Ari Fortson, Yeicelyn Mills and Everlee Pulliam and is coached  by Vanessa Gilmore and Candice Dorsey.

Trinity Tinys bring home championship

Elbert County’s Granite City All Star Cheerleading Academy’s Trinity Tinys (ages five and six) brought home the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleader’s  (FCC) National Championship after competing in Orlando, Florida Jan. 5 through Jan. 7 .

A Dollar General for Dewy Rose

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners voted Monday to bring business back to Dewy Rose as they approved a rezone request application that will see the building of a Dollar General store off of Highway 17 in the northern portion of the county.

City approves ARPA contracts, Colquitt voices concerns

The Elberton City Council voted 4-1, with Carey Butler voting in opposition, to execute grant contracts with the Jim Ree African American Museum and the Granite City Life Skills Foundation for the use of American Rescue Plan Act Funds during the council’s Jan. 9 regular meeting.

Annual MLK Unity Celebration to take place this weekend

The 2023 Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Celebration, following the theme “Use Your Voice to Make a Change,” from Elbert County Middle School sixth grader Taraji Heard, will take place this weekend with the annual Ecumenical Banquet and parade. The weekend will kick off Jan. 14 at 6 p.m.

Murder charges filed

A Bowman man was arrested on murder charges after a six hour manhunt ensued for his whereabouts following a stabbing on New Year’s Eve that left his girlfriend dead. Andrew Nicholas Berry, 34, of 2859 Bowman Highway in Bowman was arrested Dec.

Returning to restoration at ECMS

Teachers in the Elbert County School District (ECSD) returned to school Tuesday, just over a week after freezing temperatures caused pipes to burst and flood 95 percent of the building at Elbert County Middle School (ECMS).
