The buzz on the square

By Mark Wells mwells@elberton.com   A tree on the downtown square buzzed with excitement as a swarm, containing an estimated 25,000 bees, settled on a branch of the tree in order to find a new home for their hive Wednesday, April 27.

Demolishing the Georgia Guidestones?

Gubernatorial candidate Kandiss Taylor announced May 2 that she would demolish the Georgia Guidestones with her 10th executive order she pledges to sign on the first day she takes over as Georgia’s governor. Taylor is one of five  Republican candidates in the May 24 primary race for governor.

City raises electric rates

Electric rates for Elberton Utilities customers have been raised for the first time since 2013 after the Elberton City Council approved the new index of rates during Monday night’s meeting. Rates were effective May 1. Residential rates were raised from a base charge of $12.50 to $14.
