Elbert County BOC, BOE to see contested races after qualifying ends

Elbert County's races are set for the board of commissioners and board of education seats in the May 19 general primary. For the Elbert County Board of Commissioners District 2 seat, incumbent Casey Freeman (R) qualified alongside challengers Nick Etheridge (R) and Mark Harper (R).

Qualifying open for various county seats

A handful of candidates have already qualified for the seats up for reelection in the 2026 general election for Elbert County's board of commissioners (BOC) and board of education (BOE).

Elbert County BOC maintains millage rate, approves BOE rate

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners voted 3-1 to keep their millage rate at 9.928 for the unincorporated area and 10.349 in the incorporated area, down from advertised rates of 10.183 and 10.604 respectively.

Elbert County board of education sees slight decrease in millage rate

The Elbert County board of education announced a decrease in its millage rate by about half a mill during its monthly meeting Monday, bringing it down from 14 to 13.48. Superintendent Robert Wheeler said the board is meeting Thursday to officially approve the new millage rate.
