Seven homecoming queen candidates selected, eight homecoming king candidates selected

A homecoming queen – and king – will be selected Friday, Sept. 27 at halftime of the Elbert County-Social Circle football game in the Historic Granite Bowl.

The theme for this year’s homecoming festivities is “Going Back to the 80s.”

Half-time activities will include the recognition of the senior football players and their sponsors, homecoming king and the crowning of first and second runners-up and the homecoming queen.

The homecoming dance will be in the Elbert County Comprehensive High School (ECCHS) Multi-Purpose Room on Saturday, Sept. 28  from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m.

Tickets will be on sale at ECCHS starting Monday, Sept. 23.

Tickets are $10 a person during all lunches in the Devils’ Pen.

Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $15.

The ECCHS Student Council has the responsibility of planning and conducting the parade, halftime activities, dance and elections for homecoming.

Senior Student Council officers are Madison Brown, President; Zikeria Jones, Vice-President; Haileigh Slaton, secretary; and Ashford Bennett, Student Council President.

Each class officer is also a member of the Student Council.

The faculty sponsor is Mrs. Kachina Rucker.

The election of Homecoming Court and Class Representatives was held in August.  Members of the freshman, sophomore and junior classes had an opportunity to vote for five girls.  The one receiving the most votes became the representative of that class.

The representatives are freshman Brenasia Faust, sophomore Nystaza Scott and junior Toniyah Ashmore.

The senior class picked 15 girls, from which the entire student body chose seven (electing a Homecoming Court).

The 15 girls nominated by the senior class were Eliza Banks, Ashlyn Boswell, Maggee Bowie, Emerson Brown, Madison Brown, Stephanie Brena, Brissa Cervantes, Imani DeJesus, Ny’Kearia Goss, Lauren Hart, Makayla Ingle, Tremyia Jones, Zikeria Jones, Diamond Rucker and Katlyn Summers.

The senior class picked 18 guys (due to ties), from which the entire student body chose eight (due to a tie), electing a Homecoming Court.

The 18 guys nominated by the senior class were Peyton Adams, Kody Alcantar, Shun Allen, Demetrius Ardister, Ashford Bennett, Dalton Brown, Gavin Brady, Dyquavion Bryant, Kojima Crawford, Clayton Donald, Brayden Eavenson, Matthew Gibson, Cole Kouns, Kyle Moon, Qwen Moon, Brison Noggle, Ethan Poole, Carson Pullen.

The student body then chose the Homecoming Court Queen  and King Candidates.

The girl with the most votes will be crowned the 2019 Homecoming Queen and the guy with the most votes will be crowned the 2019 Homecoming King, Friday, Sept. 27 in the Granite Bowl during halftime of the Blue Devil game versus Social Circle.

The 2019 Homecoming Court members are Eliza Banks, Shun Allen, Ashlyn Boswell, Demetrius Ardister, Maggee Bowie, Ashford Bennett, Emerson Brown, Gavin Brady, Madison Brown, Brayden Eavenson, Lauren Hart, Matthew Gibson, Makayla Ingle, Cole Kouns and Qwen Moss.

During the first part of half-time there will also be recognition of senior football players and their sponsors.

The senior football players are Demetrius Ardister  No. 1, Shun Allen No. 3, Cole Kouns No. 4, Qwen Moss No. 9, Matthew Gibson No. 18, Tamar Burton  No. 32, Tobias Jones No. 34, Robert Scoggins No. 51, Caleb Hale No. 57, Seth Capps No. 64, Keevon Downer No. 67, Dyquavion Bryant No. 70, Corbin Mattox  No. 74, Clayton Donald  No. 75, Kojima Crawford No. 79 and Keshani Colbourn No. 81.

The 2019 Homecoming Parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the scoreboard end of the Granite Bowl on Church Street.

It will go up Church Street to Thomas Street, turn left onto Heard Street, and then proceed to Sutton Square, where the cheerleaders and Homecoming Court will dismount for a pep rally.

The Homecoming Court (9th-11th grade Class Representatives, the top eight for king and the top seven for Queen) and the senior football players and their sponsors will be riding in the parade along with several ECCHS clubs and the ECCHS marching band.

JROTC and the ECCHS Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleaders will be participating as well.

The public is encouraged to attend and show their Blue Devil spirit.
