Newspaper, radio station will ask questions of mayoral, council candidates
The Elberton Star and WSGC Radio will be holding a forum for candidates in the upcoming mayor and city council races in both Elberton and Bowman on Tuesday, Oct. 5 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Because of COVID issues, there will be no live audience but the forum will be carried live on WSGC (105.3 FM) and live-streamed on WSGC's Facebook page.
Anyone wishing to submit questions for candidates should email the question along with your name and phone number to star@elberton.com or news@wsgcradio.com.
The candidates are as follows:
1) Elberton mayor's race - Don Bray, Daniel Graves
2) Elberton council race (District 1) - Carey Butler, Donikia Gray, Billy Jones
3) Bowman mayor's race - Crystal Duck, Scott Harpold, Pamela Johnson, Roberta Rice
4) Bowman council race (top 3 votes) - Mary Clark, Betty Jo Maxwell, Randy Noyes, Jeremy Rooker, Leah Sellers, Wayne Turpin
5) Bowman council race (for the unexpired term of Christopher Johnson) - Pat Elrod, Christopher Johnson.
In each race candidates will give a two-minute opening statement and will alternate answering questions first.
After questions, each candidate (in reverse order) will give two-minute closing statements.
The questions will be derived from questions submitted by voters to the newspaper and radio station. Each question should be targeted to candidates in one of the five races listed. If no questions are submitted in a race, Gary Jones and Linton Johnson will come up with a list of questions for those candidates.
