Elbert County Comprehensive High School’s (ECCHS) annual homecoming activities will be held this week, beginning with the homecoming parade Wednesday, Sept. 28 and followed by the homecoming football game Thursday, Sept. 29.
The parade and game were rescheduled from their original dates in an announcement released Monday due to potential weather impacts from Hurricane Ian.
The theme for this year’s homecoming is “Under the Lights.”
Halftime activities of the Blue Devils’ football game against Mount Vernon High School will include the crowning of the 1st and 2nd runners-up and the homecoming queen.
The homecoming dance will be held for ECCHS students Saturday, Oct. 1 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the ECCHS Multipurpose room.
The ECCHS Student Council has the responsibility of planning and conducting the homecoming activities and consists of class officers from each grade level.
The 2022 Student Council President is Kemauri Willis and senior class officers are Jamia Allen, Takiyah Bell, Nicolas Smith and Marquaveon Johnson.
The faculty sponsors are JoAnne Gunter and Jeannie Jourolmon.
The election of the homecoming court and class representatives was held in September. Members of the freshman, sophomore and junior classes had an opportunity to vote for five girls. The one receiving the most votes became the representative of that class.
This year’s class representatives are freshman EriYana Agurs sophomore Hannah Brady and junior Ameriah Allen.
The senior class first chose a group of the Top 16 girls in the class. Seniors chosen include Lyndsie Acker, Jamia Allen, Nakira Baker, Takiyah Bell, Jillian Brady, Ca’Meriyah Brewer, Isabella Cone, Brenasia Faust, Brittin Grimes, Ky’Asia Huff, Maisie Jenkins, Lizzy Landaverde, Ella Long, Stashauna Portis, Lilly Ray and Haely Umble.
From the list of 16 seniors, the student body selected five and the top seven seniors were named to the homecoming court.
The three girls with the most votes will be recognized as 2nd runner-up, 1st runner-up and homecoming queen.
The 2022 Homecoming Court senior members are: Lyndsie Acker, Jamia Allen, Nakira Baker, Takiyah Bell, Brenasia Faust, Ella Long and Lilly Ray.
The 2022 Homecoming Parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 at the scoreboard end of the Granite Bowl on Church Street. It will go up Church Street to Thomas Street, turn left onto Heard Street and then proceed to Sutton Square.
The Homecoming Court (ninth through 11th grade class representatives and the seniors) and the senior football players and their sponsors will be riding in the parade along with several ECCHS clubs, the ECCHS marching band, the JROTC and the ECCHS varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders.
Elbert County Middle School (ECMS) cheerleaders, the winners of the Miss ECMS Pageant, Elbert County Parks and Recreation department cheerleaders as well as Miss ECCHS will be participating as well.
The Homecoming Court will be announced and recognized following the parade prior to the community wide pep rally.
