Couple faces marijuana charges
The Elberton Police Department arrested Charles Alexander Riley, 67, and Terri Poole Riley, 53, of 5 Brookhaven Circle on charges of felony possession and manufacture of marijuana, possession of drug- related objects and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony early Wednesday (Sept. 5) after police observed a “door open to a shed with a light on” at approximately 4:15 a.m., which led them to find a “growing operation” inside the shed, according to incident reports.
According to Sgt. Scott Marunich, the patrolling officer Virginia Shelton, was suspicious of a burglary upon observing the shed’s open door. The incident report states that lights were on in the shed, but were not on inside the residence.
With recent burglaries in the area, Shelton decided to check the shed “to see if anyone was inside,” along with checking the perimeter outside the house.
Upon looking into the shed, Shelton found “several leafy green substances.”
