Friends Helping Friends Club Inc. holds pageant

Elbert County was shining a little brighter than normal Saturday night as all of the stars came out for the annual Friends Helping Friends Club Inc. (FHF Club) Pageant Feb. 28. The pageant featured 22 contestants who were escorted and crowned by three-time Super Bowl Champion Mecole Hardman Jr.

Oliver Street set for paving

One of the busiest roads in the city limits is set for a long-term paving project as City Manager Kevin Eavenson announced Monday that North and South Oliver Streets are scheduled to be repaved starting in June.

The City of Bowman extended its moratorium on new construction permits for another 90 days as the city continues to review their extensive zoning ordinance.

Elbert County Primary School kindergarten registration scheduled

Kindergarten registration for Elbert County Primary School will become available in less than a month according to the Elbert County School District.  Online registration is set to open Monday, March 16. It can be found on the school district’s website www.elbert.k12.ga.

Layne named Miss ECCHS

Elbert County Comprehensive High School senior Lila Layne was named Miss ECCHS 2026. The Miss ECCHS Pageant was held Feb. 7 and featured a host of winners in addition to Miss ECCHS. The first runner-up was I'jianah Whiten and second runner-up was Carlee Brown.

Pre-K registration scheduled for March 11 and 12

Paul J. Blackwell Learning Center is hosting a Pre-K Registration Kick Off March 11 and 12. The event is scheduled to be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days at Paul J. Blackwell Learning Center. Children who are four years old by Sept. 1 are eligible to register.
