Elberton city manager gives update on splash park, projects

The Elberton city council gave an update on the splash park project at its regular meeting on Monday. City manager Kevin Eavenson said that the city is “nearing the finish line” of completing the splash park and that the final interior and exterior painting had been finished.

Elbert to host Washington

New Washington-Wilkes head coach T.C. Jay will look for his first win against Elbert County as he brings his untested Tiger into the Granite Bowl Friday night.  While Jay’s varsity Tigers scrimmaged Hart County to a 14-0 deficit two weeks ago, they’ll be kicking the season off in Elberton.

Blue Devils fall in Hart

‘Big mistakes’ and poor execution caused Elbert County’s first loss to rival Hart County in five years (19-7, 2014) Friday night in Hartwell.  Hart’s senior-laden Bulldogs took advantage of early Blue Devil miscues to produce the most lopsided game (39-7) since the Brent Miller era.

Council member Tyson Almond announces resignation Monday

Bowman City Council Member Tyson Almond announced his resignation Monday night.  Almond said he will be moving to Buford in order to start a new job.  “We understand when jobs come up and you’ve gotta kinda move and so we understand.

Trapnell to serve on rural health advisory board

Elbert Memorial Hospital Chief Executive Officer Kerry Trapnell has been selected to serve on the advisory board of the Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center at Mercer University School of Medicine.

Granddaughter convicted

It took an Elbert County jury only one hour and 40 minutes to convict Savanna Marrie Jennings, 21, of seven charges, including felony murder and malice murder in connection with the brutal murder of her grandfather, 86-year-old Otha Perrin.

County and Corps come together for joint cleanup

The Corps of Engineers, Elbert County Code Enforcement, Elbert County Road Department and Keep Elbert County Beautiful (KECB) are currently in the process of a joint clean up effort to address a "massive" dumping ground on Harley Rucker Road at Banana Bridge.
