Economic development authority intends to hire Warner April 19

“He has a background in filling storefronts,” said Gunter.

The Development Authority of Elbert County, Elberton and Bowman announced Monday there is one finalist for the authority’s developer position, and the authority intends to hire him at a 10 a.m. called meeting on Tuesday, April 19.

Authority member Greg Gunter told The Elberton Star Monday morning that the authority will vote to hire Rusty Alfred Warner at the called meeting.

Gunter said Warner would be informing his current employer - the City of Norcross - on Monday that Warner would be taking a position in Elbert County.

“We wanted someone who could come here and hit the ground running,” said Gunter. “He has all the contacts and all the training.”

Warner has worked for the City of Norcross since 2007. The City of Norcross website said Warner acted as the city’s business liaison and headed the city’s economic development department.

The website said Warner has an extensive knowledge of real estate and development.

According to the City of Norcross, Warner has 25 years of experience in real estate development and he still holds a Georgia real estate broker’s license.

“He has a background in filling storefronts,” said Gunter.

According to Gunter, Warner revitalized downtown in Norcross starting in 2007 when that city’s downtown area had about 35 percent of its buildings empty.

On Feb. 26 the newspaper asked the development authority to provide information on the “top three candidates as chosen by the authority” in the authority’s search for an economic developer.

Most recently the position was held by Beth Eavenson, who recently took a position with the state.

The authority had narrowed down its choices to four at the last authority meeting.

Warner, one of the four, interviewed with the authority recently, according to Gunter. Georgia law requires the authority to name its top three candidates for the position, unless there is a clear choice for the finalist in the end.

The law also requires the authority to name that candidate at least two weeks before the authority votes to hire the candidate.
