Budget to be presented at BOE meeting
The Elbert County school board will see the first draft of the system’s 2016-2017 fiscal year budget at Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting.
School Chief Financial Officer Ben Childs said he received final information on school system allotments from the state on May 5.
Included in the funding provided by the state is an increase of three percent for teachers, said Childs.
In all, the school system will receive about $25.3 million, said Childs, which is approximately $500,000 more than the school system received a year ago.
Childs said the school system also received $167,474.59 from the state in special purpose local option sales tax funds.
Elbert County School Superintendent Chuck Bell said the school system has received state approval for implementing a Strategic Waivers School System.
The school board applied to the state to receive permission to be exempt from certain regulations.
“We are going full speed ahead on that,” said Bell. “The state will be sending us contracts to sign this week. This will give us more flexibility so that we can move forward as a school system.”
