Forum scheduled for April 28
The Elberton Star and WSGC Radio will host a political forum on Thursday, April 28 from 6 until 9 p.m. at The Rock Gym behind the county complex.
The forum will be moderated by WSGC and carried live on 105.3 FM.
The Elberton Star has invited all candidates with opposition to attend the forum.
Those invited included candidates for U.S. Representative Ninth District, Georgia Senate 24th District, Northern Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge, Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney and Elbert County Sheriff (Republican Party).
All but three candidates have confirmed they would attend the forum.
Candidates confirmed attending for U.S. House of Representative- 9th District seat include Bernie Fontaine, Mike Scupin, Paul C. Broun and Roger Fitzpatrick. Incumbent Doug Collins will be in Washington D.C. voting on that day.
Candidates confirmed attending for State Senate- District 24 include Joe Edge, Lee Anderson and Peter Gibbons.
Candidates confirmed attending for Northern Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge include incumbent Chris Phelps and Jim Carmichael.
The candidates confirmed attending for Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney include incumbent Parks White and Richard D. Campbell.
Candidates confirmed for Elbert County Sheriff (Republican primary) include Shayne Bennett and Jamie Callaway.
Doors will open to the public 30 minutes prior to the start of the forum so voters can meet the candidates.
Candidates are encouraged to come early and remain after the event to talk to constituents as well. (Candidates in the U.S. Representative, State Senate and District Attorney race will leave after their respective Q&A session due to commitments in Franklin County and will not be available at the end.)
Each session will consist of a 30 minute question and answer segment with questions submitted by both the public and local media. All questions will come from the moderator and must be submitted prior to the start of the forum. No questions will come directly from the floor.
