Old health department building may be on market

By Shane Scoggins

The former Elbert County Health Department building on Church Street may be up for sale. Again.

Elberton City Manager Lanier Dunn said Monday that he had been contacted by the Elbert County government with a request to put the building up for auction.

The city and county jointly own the building, but not the parking lot beside the building.

The two governments have put the building up for sale in the past, but failed to receive a bid high enough for them to sell it.

“I don’t know if we will get any bidders at this time,” he said.

The county did have someone who wished to look at the building, Dunn said.

The county proposed a minimum sale price of $50,000, Dunn said.

He said he felt that was a fair price given the condition of the building.

“It’s not in good condition,” he said.
